I discovered the Riga Hayworth books and read all 6 (that have been published to date) in a week. So yes, I'm a big fan of the series.Riga's in the Big Uneasy, discovering there's a price on her head when a Hoodoo Hitman tries (and fails) to kill her. Riga's mysterious past is coming back to haunt her, perhaps literally. How far will she go to protect herself and those she loves - and will it be far enough to satisfy the stone-cold ruthlessness of Brigitte?
The story is more detective than bodice-ripper, which I appreciate, and the characters are interesting and well-drawn. We learn a fair amount of Riga's backstory in this book - I'm enjoying the author's pacing of the revelations of Riga's past.
Apropos of some criticisms I've read in the reviews: This is not a grimoire. You will not learn dark arts within these pages. The author does know her paranormal stuff, though, and provides a convincing and compelling world for Riga and the others to inhabit.
I look forward to book 7!

I'm hooked on Riga Hayworth mysteries! I can't wait for the next Kirsten Weiss to come out!
Best one out of the 6 book series. Couldn't put it down. Waiting to see if more are going to be added to the series.
Being a child of the fifty's that grew up watching old 40's movies with her dad, these books just hit me right. I hated to read the last of the series. Rega Hayworth was my hero.
These just get better and better. I am especially enjoying the forays into different magical traditions. Who knew there was a difference between voodoo and hoodoo. Like Riga, I still don't quite get it. Great book.
The story itself is okay and although the angst, self doubt and guilt trips of the main character become tedious over time, the other characters and magic save this book. The gargoyle is still the most fascinating character and I'd like to see more of her in the next book. Newcomers to this series should start with the first book...The Metaphysical Detective.
The BEST Riga Hayworth paranormal mystery so far! The setting, character development and — most of all — the integration of magic and detective fiction — makes this the best in the series. Kristen Weiss' creative take on the New Orleans supernatural scene includes a fabulous variation on the usual vampire mythology, plus a mad mash-up of hoodoo, voodoo and familiar magical references. The send-up of reality TV shows is fun and the setting is intriguing. I don't want to spoil the fun, so I'm holding back on favorite scenes and characters. Enjoy!
I really like this series. This is one of my favorites. It was good to come back to Riga and Donovan's world. Really exciting and full of action. Pen, Riga's niece gets into a lot of trouble in this one, and Riga and Donovan will do anything to make sure she is safe. Of course Brigitte and the aunts are there to help, or are the aunts there to hinder? I really liked the New Orleans location for this one, but I missed them being on their home ground, and I hope they head home for the next book, although I will follow them wherever they go. Riga ends up with a dog also, and really hope she takes him home with them. I hope the next one comes soon.
